Они бились за звание чемпиона мира. Хинан серьезно повредил сопернику руку, но Сэйерс продолжал наносить удары в ответ.
На 37-м раунде американские болельщики прорвались на ринг и началась всеобщая потасовка. Лорд Ридесдейл, который был свидетелем боя, утверждает, что Сэйерс обязательно бы выиграл, если бы не американцы.
Также следует заметить, что американцы считают, что это наооборот, английские болельщики вылезли на ринг первыми, спасая Сэйерса от неминуемого поражения.
Бокс в те времена был запрещен. Тем не менее полиция не вмешивалась до тех пор пока количество участников матча не стало резко увеличиваться. Когда полицейские увидели вместо боксерского поединка зрелище напоминающее игру в регби, они всех разогнали.
В результате, была объявлена ничья и оба героя получили пояс:

После описываемых событий Хинан и Сэйерс подружились и несколько раз выступали на сцене с инсценировками своего знаменитого боя.
Песня "Heenan And Sayers" написана после знаменитого матча между английским боксером, которого звали Thomas Sayers и американцем по имени John Carmel Heenan. Матч проходил 17-го апреля 1860-го года в Farnborough и длился 37 раундов. Принимая длину раунда равной трем минутам и применяя математическую операцию, называемую "умножение", получаем примерно 2 часа чистого мордобоя, не включая перерывы.
